What is PTSD?
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a mental health condition that's triggered by a terrifying event — either experiencing it or witnessing it.

Symptoms of PTSD can vary in intensity over time and from person to person. They are generally grouped into four types:
Intrusive Memories
Recurrent, unwanted distressing memories of the traumatic event.
Avoidance
Trying to avoid thinking or talking about the traumatic event.
Negative Changes in Thinking and Mood
Negative thoughts about yourself, others, or the world.
Changes in Physical and Emotional Reactions
Being easily startled or frightened, always being on guard for danger.
Causes of PTSD
Anyone can develop PTSD at any age. This includes combat veterans, children, and people who have been through a physical or sexual assault, abuse, accidents, disasters, or other serious events.
Combat Exposure
Experiencing or witnessing warfare.
Physical or Sexual Assault
Being a victim of violent crime.
Natural Disasters
